Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients

3 green tomatoes (thickly sliced)

2 cups buttermilk

1 cup cornmeal

1/3 cup all purpose flour

1 tbs salt + more for dusting

Pepper - to taste

Garlic powder - to taste

Cooking oil

Method

Set up a dredging station. Start with your sliced tomatoes. Then have a vessels for your buttermilk.  Your next container will be filled with your flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Stir to combine. Finally finish off your station with a wire rack to rest your battered tomatoes on. Place your sliced tomatoes in the buttermilk, next to the cornmeal mixture and finally to the rack. One all slices are evenly covered place them in the fridge until your oil heats up.

In a skillet/pan pour enough oil to cover the tomato slices when cooking. Heat over medium high heat. Remove tomatoes from fridge and carefully lower them into the oil. Cook on each side until golden. Remove from oil and return to wire rack. Sprinkle with salt and enjoy while still warm! My favorite way to eat them is with smoked mozzarella!
